Coventry City had their first good result of the season when the Football Transfer Tribunal ordered City to pay the £40,000 they had bid for Robbie Simpson.
Good Result For City
The deal could rise to £130,000 based on appeances and City will have to pay Cambridge United 5% of any future transfer fee.
City MD Paul Fletcher was pleased with the news and told the club website: "I think it shows that the Club's offer for Robbie's registration was fair and that today's outcome and the level of compensation reflects that."
Cambridge United Chairman Lee Power was not of the same view. He told the U's website: "The up-front payment and sell-on clause is nothing short of disgraceful. I've never heard of such a low figure and we're just flabbergasted.
"You see players moving in the Premiership for millions and still getting a 15-20% sell-on. "This is a shambles and if this is the way forward in football then football at lower levels is doomed."
