Wednesday beat Brentford 3-1 on aggregate whilst it took sudden death penalties to decide the winners of the Tranmere v Hartlepool game which had seen two second half goals for the Birkenhead based club cancel out a first leg deficit.
Former Sky Blues - Paul Hall (Tranmere) and Gavin Strachan (Hartlepool) both scored in the penalty shoot-out which Hartlepool eventually won 6-5.
