Coventry City manager Chris Coleman has hinted that he may be interested in signing Northern Ireland international striker David Healey from Sunderland.
With the likelihood that top scorer Leon Best will be leaving the club, Coleman will need a replacement and proven goalscorer. It is thought that Coleman may even try to sign a proven striker if Best remains at the Ricoh.
Chris Coleman spoke about the possibility of signing another striker, saying “We may try to get one in anyway because Gary Madine is one for the future. I am talking about proven, ready now, and if he has to be a little bit older but he is going to be good for us for the next two or three years, and good for the players he is playing with, ie the other strikers, then we are going to need to do that if we are going to lose Leon.”
Gary Madine has returned to Carlisle while the two clubs negotiate a possible deal for the young striker.
David Healey, who was a one time target for Coventry City, has made it clear he wants to move from Sunderland because he is eager to play regular first team football and has said he is willing to play in the Championship.
The 30 year old David Healey said, “I know my future is not going to be at Sunderland. I’m more than willing to go back to the Championship and get back to enjoying my football again. It’s been a disappointing time and people have said that it’s time to move on, but when you have a contract and a family where you live, sometimes it’s difficult.”
Healey has not started a game for Sunderland since his £1.5m transfer from Leeds United two and a half years ago.
