Former Coventry City loanee Jordan Henderson could captain England U21's against Ukraine tonight.
Michael Mancienne who started Sunday's game against Spain as captain is expected to be dropped and Henderson, now with Liverpool, took the armband for the rest of the 1-1 draw when the Hamburg player went off.
The Daily Star, are quoting England U21 boss and former Sky Blue Stuart Pearce as saying: “If Michael’s not on the pitch, then he can’t captain the team. That’s common sense.
“Is it a big thing to take the armband off someone? I don’t think so. “I don’t see it that way and I don’t think the squad will see it that way either.
“Over the campaign, we haven’t had one player who’s been looked at as being England captain.
“Different individuals have captained the team. “There’s no relevance to it. My loyalty to my players doesn’t extend to picking teams, I’m afraid.
“Making sure the last person that captained the team is in the team for the next game is absolutely no consideration to me whatsoever.
“If I need to freshen it up, I have got players there to step in and give the team a lift, and they’re all telling me they’re ready.”
