Jimmy Hill today backed the Save The Academy campaign. He told the club website: "I had George Curtis as my captain at the age of just 21 and he made his debut when he was 16 before I was manager," he recalls. "And another of the most influential players in my side was Ronnie Rees who made his first appearance when he was just 17.
"There is a lot to be said for bringing through your own players and it is perhaps even more important now than it was back then. "That is why I would urge any supporter who is able to contribute money to do so. The Club is obviously in financial trouble and any assistance from the fans would be extremely welcome."
