Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he hopes that Vladimir Gadzhev gets his rewards.
Speaking about the Bulgarian who scored a goal every bit as good as those in City's Goal Of The Season competition, Mowbray said to the Coventry Telegraph:
“For me it’s about getting an understanding of the English game.
“It’s been a bit of a culture shock – I have had conversations with him where he’s been taken aback by how much running we’ve asked him to do in training and how much extra work we’ve asked him to do.
“He’s said things like ‘in Bulgaria we don’t do that much running, we play our positions and pass it about,’ and that’s fine.
“But I am trying almost, not to shock him, but to understand that in English football you have to run and compete.
"Yes, we want to stand and pass and play our positional game and we, more than most teams, will play a positional game but he has to understand that he has to compete and run, win some headers and put some tackles in.
“And I think he understands that and that’s why he’s doing a lot of extra work and he has no complaints when we ask him to play Under-21s football when he’s an international footballer who has played against Italy and the likes of Pirlo in the last year or two, and I am asking him to play in an empty stadium against an Under-21 team from Huddersfield. And yet he does it no problem.
“Hopefully he’ll get his rewards. I’d like to think he’ll play a part in the last two games at some stage but through pre-season and the start of next season he has to show his quality and push his way through.”
