Coventry City defender Herman Hreidarsson looks set to miss the rest of the season after a specialist said he needs an operation to correct his dislocated shoulder and he needs it sooner rather than later.

In his more usual positive mood, City boss Andy Thorn claimed that despite not having Hreidarsson fit for selection, he still has a big part to play in the club's relegation battle.

The 37 year old defender joined Coventry City on a free transfer in January from Portsmouth for the remainder of the season.

He made his debut in the home win over Middlesbrough and played in the 2-1 defeat at Blackpool where he initially damaged his shoulder. With just a few minutes left of the game, hreidarsson simply pushed his dislocated shoulder back into place and completed the game.

He had offered to defer the required operation and play on through the pain barrier for the rest of the season, but his specialist says he needs the operation now.

Thorn told the CT, “Hermann has seen a top specialist and he’s been told that he can’t put it off. He’s told me he wants to get back as quickly as possible but, being realistic, the odds are that he’ll be out for the rest of the season, but I still want him involved as much as possible because he has got a fantastic presence about him in the dressing room and you just can’t buy that.”
