Hughes, who moved across The Midlands to Highfield Road in a £5million deal 12 months ago, has signed a four-year contract which will keep him at the Hawthorns until the summer of 2006.

There had been a scare that the deal may fall through because of Hughes' pay demands because it is believed that he almost doubled his then salary at West Brom when he joined Coventry last year.

But, an Albion spokesman said: "We can confirm Lee Hughes has signed for West Bromwich Albion for £2.5million on a four-year contract after agreeing terms."
