Former Coventry City striker John Hartson is aiming to get back to work.
Hartson came close to death with testicular cancer which spread to his brain and has had 67 chemotherapy sessions after having operations.
Speaking to Talksport, the former Wales international said: "I feel great. I've never felt ill. I feel absolutely fine, I'm getting out and about, I'm driving my car, picking the kids up from school and living a normal life. I get a little bit tired every now and then when I push the baby around the shops in the pram and challenge myself a bit too much. But other than the headaches that I had about three months ago, I've never felt ill.
"I aim to get back to work. "I was going really well before this happened. I was doing a lot of TV work, I was in and out of the radio shows and I'd passed my [coaching] badges so everything was going in the right direction for me."
Hartson is still not out of the woods and said: "It got really bad. I was given a 50/50 chance. "My dad spoke to my oncologist and his exact words to my dad were, 'We are not concerned about the cancer now, we're just trying to save John's life. John's got to make the ambulance journey to the hospital and he's got to survive the first brain operation that we're going to give when he gets there.' So that's how close I came and obviously the doctors and the nurses worked wonders with me.
"I was in intensive care for the best part of five weeks, I was on a life support machine, I stopped breathing, and so I went through it a little bit. But I'm on the road to recovery now. I'm in the right hands. I'm not out of the woods yet; I've got some scans to come and probably some surgery towards the end of the month when they see my scans. I'm not getting carried away with the recovery I've made, I know there's a fair bit to go and I'm just trying to stay strong."
