I was called on Monday by the Colchester Chairman to tell me about the interest," said Boothroyd at the Ricoh Arena Press Confidence. " Would I be interested, of course. It is a fantastic opportunity and I said straight away that I would be delighted go and meet the Chairman and have a chat about things."
When asked by Adam Dent, how difficult it was to leave Colchester, Boothroyd replied: "I have been quite lucky in my career so far and I have had good Chairman. I know some managers haven't but I have been lucky to have some good ones.
"Robbie Cowling at Colchester was terrific to work for and it was difficult but having met Ray, I knew straight away that we could build a relationship and we could do some good things together as well. "It was not a difficult decision in what the club is and what it can be and also because of the fact of what we can do together.
When asked about ambition at Coventry, Bothroyd said: "Eventually yes, I could sit here and say I'd be happy to just keep chugging along nicely. "Of course, we have to build slowly and look to improve on previous results and league finishes but you know me well enough by now to know that I am qujite ambitious and I want to be the best that I can be and as a manager, I want to keep improving and pushing up the table as that is where everyone wants to be in the promised land."
