Coventry City midfielder and club captain Sammy Clingan has said that he loves the diamond formation, that the Sky Blues have played since Andy Thorn took over a manager.
Speaking to the CT's Andy Turner, Clingan said: “I think the diamond midfield is the best position and formation to suit my game because at the end of last season that was the happiest I have been with my own form since maybe my Norwich days when I had a really good season just before I came here, even though we got relegated.
“I think my consistency was a lot better towards the end of the season and I really enjoyed playing in that position because the manager wanted me to get on the ball and pass and move it and create space and stuff.
“Every game I was with him afterwards and asked him to assess my performance and he was pleased with all of them to be honest.
“It played to everyone’s strengths and all the lads you could see were playing with a smile on their faces because we were getting on the ball, creating chances and players do enjoy playing when they are doing that rather than just chasing after other teams and stuff, so hopefully we can do that again this season.”
