The late penalty against Barnsley on Tuesday night was his sixth goal of this season and Ward wants to get a couple more in the remaning matches.
"I have got six now and I got seven last year," said Ward to the CT. "That's a little target with two games to go, so hopefully I can get a couple more to beat it.
"We haven't scored many goals lately even though we have had a lot of chances, and that means you don't get the results you want."
The centre-back could have had a hat-trick on Tuesday - a volley cleared off the line while a powerful header thumped the bar from a corner - and he is now the club's second highest scorer of the season.
"I would have loved to have scored the header and I think that is what I need to do more," he said.
"It was a great ball in from Dan Fox and I smashed the bar - I don't know how it didn't go in.
"It has been a while since we have had a penalty and thankfully it came to me and it was nice."
