Like Iain Dowie before him, Coleman is well aware of Ray Ranson's demands that City make a challenge for the top flight in season 08/09.
"The fans have not seen the way, ideally, that we want to do it," said Coleman to the CT. "I think we have been here three months. There will be changes and we have said that from the start.
"It has been hard for the players, particularly the players who are out of contract and it has been a struggle at times.
"In terms of my team or ideally the way I want to do it, we are nowhere near at the minute but that's something for me to concentrate on now because I want to be trying to get into the Premier League from this division and not the one below.
"You want to be competing against better players higher up the league, and get into the next league and be better again, and you either think like that and you want it or you are happy for us to go mediocre, and finish middle of the table not being able to go up or down.
"I don't want those type of players here because I am not that type of person. "I want to be in the Premier League and up against the best managers and I want my team to be up against the best teams.
"The players we want to bring here need to enjoy the big games and not settle for second best or medocrity because we want to be at the top end of the league.
"We want to put a team together that will finish at least 12 places higher. Coventry have'nt even been in the play-offs and we have to make sure this time next year the pressure is on at the other end as it can't ever be this bad again.
"I feel so sorry for the fans and it is hard for them but hopefully our experience will stand us in good stead."
