Former Coventry City captain Stephen Wright has said that he wants to work.
The former Liverpool and Sunderland player was not offered a new contract by the Sky Blues when his contract at the Ricoh Arena expired back on June 30th and is now training alone and looking for a new employer.
Whilst many City supporters believe that his performances were not good enough last season to merit a new deal, Wright has kept the faith in himself. He told the Daily Mail: "It’s tough, but then I’ve been privileged to play professional football, it’s been brilliant. "I’ve had a lot of games, I’ve experienced a lot of things. This is something you have got to deal with, a part of life as well as football.
"Every single day since July 1, bar the one I gave myself off, I’ve gone over to the school playing field behind my house. Then I go to the gym. 'I love football and I want to be ready if a call comes. But I wouldn’t be human if there weren’t times when it’s been doing my head in."
Wright has received offers from abroad but has rejected them saying: "I’d probably love the football and the lifestyle abroad but what about Sarah in the house with two kids? I’ve seen players live away from their families and two years down the line their marriages are splitting up.
"So when this Saturday comes I’ll do my training, then I’ll either go to a match or watch it on TV. Hopefully something will come up. It’s the best living you’d want. And I need to work, I want to work."
