The International Football Association Board (IFAB) are looking for a system which will be able to tell conclusively in a second if a ball has crossed the line or not.
On Saturday at Ipswich, Coventry City's Lukas Jutkiewicz thundered a shot which hit the underside of the bar and bounced down. There was not much fuss amongst the 529 City supporters in the away end at Portman Road as many including ourselves felt that from our view that it did not cross the line. However, the view was not shared by television replays and the City manager who has appealed for goal-line technology to come into the game.
IFAB are inviting companies who deal in such technology to contact them by the end of November with their plans and designs.
IFAB, today released a press statement saying: "The indication of whether a goal has been scored must be immediate and automatically confirmed within one second.
"The technology would apply solely to the goal-line, and only to determine whether a goal has been scored or not. "The system must be accurate. The indication of whether a goal has been scored will only be communicated to the match officials."
