The Icelandic international has been moved to a more attacking role and Gunnarsson told the CT: "I'm finding it hard this year.
"I'm playing in a different position, a bit more forward, and I thought I could do well there but obviously I can't because I'm not performing.
"I know that, the fans know that, everybody knows that - I was disgraceful against Swansea and although I thought I was slightly better against Blackpool, it still wasn't really there.
"Perhaps it would be better if I could go back to my old position but I'm not going to start making demands."
"I don't know if the gaffer is going to take me off the team but when you haven't won for three games in a row you expect changes.
"If it's me that gets dropped I'd be fuming on the bench but I'll accept it."
Off the field matters are not helping Gunnarsson and he added: "My head's not been in the right place because of private stuff, stuff I don't want to talk about.
"But my agent came over from Holland for a chat and told me I had to forget about everything else and just enjoy my game.
"I'm doing that in training now, having a laugh and I'm getting my head back. "Give me time and I'll be back on it, don't worry about that."
