I'm In Favour Of A Two Week Shut-Down- Coleman

Coventry City manager Chris Coleman has said that he is in favour of a two week football shut down over the Christmas and New Year period.

The City boss, writing in his column in City's match day programme against Barnsley yesterday said: "I  am of the opinion that for two weeks there should be a complete shut down of football - for two reasons.

"Firstly," said Coleman. "I believe that a break would serve our players well for the second half of the season and give a break to international players to recover before joining up with their respective countries in what is bound to be a busy summer.

"Secondly, how many games were called off  this time due to the bad weather? It was a waste of time, money and energy for supporters. Also, how many games are played on pitches that frankly, are not up to the standard required?

Spain, Germany, Holland and Italy all have winter breaks and it is no surprise therefore that they all perform well when the big tournaments come around."
