Introducing Chris McGrath

An introduction to the Supporters’ Consultative Group and how to get in contact, along with information about individual members and the minutes to each monthly meeting, can be found in the Fans section on the football club’s website, ccfc.co.uk.

Christine McGrath has the arduous responsibility of taking the minutes. Chris, who is a long-serving member of the SCG, has been a loyal supporter since attending her first match, the 8-1 home win against Shrewsbury Town on 22 October 1963. Goals by George Hudson and Hugh Barr amid a Ronnie Rees hat-trick ignited Chris’s Sky Blue imagination that night.

In 2006, when Chris wrote to managing director Paul Fletcher suggesting the club crest should be displayed on the Ricoh Arena, he invited her to join the SCG. She has prompted changes to the supporters’ traditionally male environment. “As a female supporter,” she hastens to add, “I don’t expect a football ground to have pink fluffy cushions.”

Chris’s major concern is about backing the team. “Some supporters continually barrack certain players, especially the younger ones from the Academy,” she says. “I fail to understand why they believe shouting insults and booing will assist in any way. The youngsters are still learning their trade and need the encouragement of the fans.”

Chris is passionate and single-minded in her commitment: “In these difficult times we must get behind the team.”
