Boothroyd stated that no offence was meant by his one-line rebuke and told the CT: "I had a few people saying to me 'that was racist' and it absolutely wasn't intended that way.
"I got my two Scottish members of staff in, read out what I'd said and asked them if that was offensive to Scots people and they said 'absolutely not.'
"I lived in Scotland when I played for Hearts - well, Hearts Reserves - and it was a very special time in my life.
"It's a lovely warm place - the people that is, not the weather - and I mean that sincerely. "This was just a bit of banter, so I'm glad he's firing one or two back."
