Coventry City manager Mark Robins said it was not good enough as the Sky Blues went down to a 1-0 Boxing Day defeat at Port Vale.
Robins told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: “It was disappointing because it’s a difficult place to come because they have some threats in their side, but we were well in the game.
“It was another chance to go third into the automatic places and we turned it down.
“We got into some decent positions and didn’t have any quality at the end of it to get a chance or shot on goal or on target.
“One shot on target is not good enough, and needs more quality to turn those openings into goal scoring chances, so that’s the disappointment and those were the frustrations really.
“We dealt with everything apart from a mix up at the back in the second half when there was a lack of communicatuon between the centre-half and goalkeeper.
“And then there was a switch off for the goal. Having dealt with the set play the ball goes out for a throw-in and we haven’t adjusted quickly enough, and that was a real disappointment.
“It was a really, really poor goal to give away.
“When you have not played brilliantly then you have to try to at least come away with a point because it all adds to your tally, and not to throw it away with a really poor goal.
“The disappointment is that we could have really built on our momentum but we haven’t deserved to. Vale worked hard against us. We huffed and puffed a little bit but not had any real quality, and found it hard going at times.
"We created some really good openings in the first half, especailly. We huffed and puffed and really kept them at bay but it’s really difficult place to come, as I have said.
“We have got some match winners in the side but we didn’t have that quality in the final third to get anything from the game, and then when we conceded we had to claw our way back into the game but should have at least had a goal to our name by then.
“The beauty of it is we can pick up points again on Saturday.

"We have got a long trip to Carlsile so let’s put this disappointment behind us and go and get three points there."
