This is my 60th year of supporting my football club , and I have reached the lowest point in all that time.
Off field matters are a total shambles , thanks to our owners . We have a team now apart from a few exceptions that lacks fight.
Mark Robins description of the Southend game summed it up , horrendous. Southend won that game after two minutes , you just know there is no way back. I ‘ve watched us play in div 4 (now ridiculously called div 2 ) , but in that team that got promoted after one season we had a brilliant keeper in Arthur Lightening , a centre forward Ray Straw who actually could get 20 plus goals a season, players like George Curtis , Ron Farmer and Mick Kearns who took the club right to the top.
What have we got know ? We have a few promising youngsters , Dion Kelly-Evans , George Thomas work their socks off, Ben Stevenson an outstanding prospect waiting to be sold. Attendances are dropping , even though we are going to half fill Wembley next month !
Mark Robins has inherited a poor squad , and if he is here next season must start planning for it now.
Firstly send back the loan players , no point having them now. Any players whose contract is up in the summer and he doesn’t want , leave them out of the side , play the youngsters , what is there to lose. We need a team playing at Wembley that’s got pride in playing for the club , win or lose it doesn’t matter , but not one that gives up as soon as they go a goal down.
Finally, if our owners SISU will not sell , they have to do a complete u turn , drop the court case , get a ground share agreement with the Ricoh , and give the manager a generous transfer budget for next season to start the long road back.
It’s 50 years next month since we reach the top division, I wonder what those players think of it all now . Like me heart broken I guess.
