Super Sam as he was nicknamed by the City support did well during his time at Highfield Road after joining the Sky Blues from America but when he thought, like most City supporters at the time that he was getting a new contract, Bobby Gould gave him his boots in a black bin liner.
Speaking to The Sun, Allardyce said: "They'd promised me a new deal in writing.
"I went in to get the new contract but they said they'd decided to let me go and gave me my boots in a black bin liner. I have never forgiven Bobby Gould for that.
"I captained the side that year. I'd come back from the States, got back into the top league and I thought I'd done enough."
