James Alexander Gordon, the man who read the football scores out at 5pm on Saturday afternoon on Radio 2 and then Radio 5 has died aged 78.
He joined the BBC in 1972 and began reading the classified scores in 1974. He was forced to retire in 2013 and had been battling throat cancer.
His legendary reading of the results made it possible for supporters to be able to predict a Coventry City result, if they did not know the score already, simply on the way he announced it.
