Former Coventry City defender John Beck has been appointed the new manager of Histon Town.
Beck, who joined City from QPR in 1976, making 69 appearances and scoring six goals, and played for Fulham, Bournemouth and Cambridge United, replaces former VS Rugby boss Alan Lewer.
He was manager of a Cambridge side famous for the long ball that came close to getting into the top flight, before he left to manage Preston and Lincoln before returning to Cambridge and then to Histon where he was assistant to Steve Fallon.
Speaking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire about his appointment as manager of the Conference club, Beck said: "Steve and I achieved a fantastic amount and I'm hoping, given enough time, we can do similar things.
"It's going to be very difficult next season. We have a mountain to climb."
"We have a recruitment problem. All the best players have already been snapped up. "We've had a mass exodus as well but we should be shouting from the rooftops what we've achieved.
"I do believe that if we finish one place above relegation that will be like climbing Mount Everest.
"But I don't think there's another manager in the country that can do this job and offer what Histon needs."
