Coventry City duo Reda Johnson and Simeon Jackson have opted out of international duty.
Johnson had been due to play for Benin in a friendly on Sunday and Jackson would have missed two games for City if he had gone on a Canadian camp in Mexico in preparation for a friendly against Panama in New Jersey, but both will be available for City for tomorrow night's JPT2 clash against Exeter City and the trip to Crewe on Saturday.
Jackson told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “I had a word with the manager and told him I think it’s best for me to miss this one and stay here and concentrate on my club football because I don’t want to be stop-start, and missing two games is not ideal,” revealed Jackson, who scored City’s second goal in the 2-2 draw with Crawley on Saturday.
“I don’t want to be missing two games. I felt that was important and the gaffer backed me, so I’ll be here.
“It’s unfortunate because I don’t want to be missing internationals and I don’t want to be missing club games, but you have focus on the bread and butter first and doing well here at Coventry, and the other can come after.
"I have spoken to Canada and they’ve been great and very understanding.”
