Coventry City captain Reda Johnson has said that he wants to build a relationship with the City support.
Johnson, who was known for his community work at Sheffield Wednesday, told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole as to why he is community minded: “It’s because I always give 100 per cent and that’s what fans like to see,” he said. “If you give everything for the team, people are happy and give you their applause.
“I know that as a footballer I am in a privileged position – when we come to work in the morning, everything is ready for us so we just have to wear our kit and that’s it.
“Some people wake up at five o’clock in the morning and go to work and finish at night, so when you are lucky like me, being a footballer, you have to help other people to give them a smile.
“I think it is very important to do community work because you have to think about other people and try to help those who need it.
"Sometimes it is not about money, it is just a smile, an autograph or a picture – you go to see people and try to make their lives a bit easier or a little bit happier.
“I hope I can build that relationship with the Coventry fans but I don’t know how many of them I will get to meet because we are not playing at home and I heard a lot of fans are not coming to games which is very sad.”
