The Coventry City Former Players Association are delighted to announce that Brian Joicey will be the Association’s special guest at today's fixture against Birmingham City.
Although he was unable to come to last year’s reunion of the Sky Blues’ 1970 European Squad we are very pleased that we have now arranged for Brian who featured in games against both Trakia Plovdiv and Bayern Munich (and scored one of City’s goals in the first leg home victory against the Bulgarian outfit) to visit us.
Brian was an England Amateur International and after a non-league career in his native North-East the rumbustious 24 year old inside forward was signed from North Shields in June 1969 for £35000 and made a total of 44 appearances for the Sky Blues scoring 10 goals. He then moved on (with Dave Clements) to Sheffield Wednesday in August 1971 for a combined fee of £100k. He had a very successful career with the Owls scoring over 50 times in just over 160 appearances before moving to Barnsley in 1976 where he finished his League career three years later. Brian now works in the motor trade in South Yorkshire.
Look out for Brian around the corporate lounges before the game, on the pitch at half-time, and on the stage at Lady Gs in the Casino at the Ricoh at the end of the game where he will be chatting with CCFPA’s Billy Bell.
