Coventry City's 18 year old striker Jodi Jones, who struggled with a thigh injury during pre-season training, has said he believes he will thrive in the role Sky Blues manager Tony Mowbray has persuaded him to fulfill.
Jones had to learn about playing in a more central attacking role rather than playing wider on the wing, but he says he is now enjoying playing in the new role.
Jones told the Coventry Telegraph, “I’m enjoying the formation. When I first came in I was out on the wing and I enjoyed doing that, being one v one with the full-back but the manager talked to me about playing as a No.10.
“I wasn’t too sure because I was still young and didn’t think I had the experience, the right movement and right football brain to think about the positions to get in, but the week we trained in Austria helped me a lot and now I feel really comfortable in that No.10 position and I prefer playing there rather than on the wing because I can get into pockets and turn on the ball and run towards the opposition goal.”
Jones revealed that the veteran striker Marcus Tudgay has helped him develop his game during the summer.
He said, “We have got quite a young team and he’s got great experience, having played at a high level, and he’s done a few sessions with us strikers in training. He’s worked with us on movement and finishing and it’s been really good and feel I have learned quite a lot from him.”
