Keiren Gets Ireland Sub Outing

Popular Coventry City keeper Keiren Westwood came on as 68th minute substutute for the Republic Of Ireland tonight in their 3-0 defeat by Australia in Limerick.



Giovanni Trappatoni's side trailed 2-0 thanks a brace from Everton's Tim Cahill when the City keeper replaced Shay Given.

Westwood did well but had no chance when a thirty yarder from David Carney flew high into the net.

City midfielder Sammy Clingan played for 70 minutes of Northern Ireland's 1-1 draw with Israel at Windsor Park. Former City keeper Jonny Tuffey was in goal for the second half and kept a clean sheet after making three good saves.

Aron Gunnarsson played the last 40 minutes of Iceland's 1-1 draw against Slovakia.



Former City loanee Gary Caldwell was sent off in Scotland's 4-0 defeat to Norway.

Clayton Ince started and Chris Birchall was a 63rd minute substitute for Trinidad & Tobago in their 1-0 World Cup Qualifier against El Salvador.

Forgotten man Michael Mifsud scored Malta's two goals tonight (64th, 74th mins) in their friendly win against Georgia. This was the first match for Malta under new manager John Buttigieg, a former full-back with Brentford. Buttigieg is being assisted by another former Malta international Carmel Busuttil who used to play for Belgian side Genk. Previous coach Dusan Fitzel had resigned his post for health reasons.
