Coventry City defender Richard Keogh hopes to make it into the Republic of Ireland squad one day.
Keogh captained the Republic's U21 side and told the Coventry Observer's Steve Carpenter: "It means a lot to me having been the captain of the U21 side.
"Ireland always holds a special place in my heart and obviously playing in the Championship is going to give me a bit more exposure, especially when you see what Keiren Westwood achieved when he was here.
"it's always in the back of my head and I did think the more games I play the more chance I have of getting involved and there's quite a strong Irish connection here at the club.
"So hopefully, if I keep putting on some good performances and if the squad picks up a few injuries and suspensions, then I could get involved which would be fantastic but if not I'll just try and do well for Coventry and everything else is a bonus."
