Former Coventry City player Kevin Gallacher feels that poor results were the reason that Craig Levein lost his job as Scotland National Team manager.
Speaking to Radio 5 Live, Gallacher, now a media pundit said:"It is a result-orientated game, no one has looked at the good side of what he has done at national team and below.
"Levein was brought in by the SFA as part of their bright new dawn almost three years ago, but like so many before him results got in the way. The writing was probably on the wall.
"The Scottish Football Association were just looking at results, which is what you want to do if you want to get to the big competitions.
"What the fans see is results on the grass, and the results haven't been good
"You have to qualify for major competitions because that's where the finance comes in.
"We've not qualified since 1998, so there's not been much major money going into the SFA to help the grassroots side of it."
Meanwhile, as well as being the favourite for bookmakers SkyBet, former Coventry City player and manager Gordon Strachan has also been named by Alex McLeish as an ideal replacement for Levein.
