Former Coventry City striker Lee Hughes has begged for forgiveness from the daughter of the Coventry man he killed.

Hughes was sent to prison in 2004 for causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Douglas Graham died in the crash with Hughes Mercedes and thirteen months later, Mr Graham's wife Maureen died whilst a pensioner from Stoke Aldermoor Albert Frisby was left crippled by the injuries he received.

Hughes has met the daughter of the Graham's and the striker now at Notts County told the CT: "I still think about it all the time. It's hard.

"I'm not going into details of what he said - that's private details between the two of us. But it helped me and she said it helped her.

"It was the biggest mistake of my life. I wish I could change it but I can't. "The only way I can get over it is to improve myself as a person.

"Prison traumatised me. I never thought I would be in there. I never thought I would make such a stupid mistake.

"When I first came out, I had counselling to help me heal. It's really hard, especially having two young children as well.

"I always enjoyed coaching children so I'd like to get into that side."
