Former Coventry City forward Leon McKenzie has said that he is finding boxing tough but enjoyable.
McKenzie, who comes from a famous boxing family, took up boxing after retiring from football and told Boxing News: “Life as a pro boxer has been very good so far, but very tough!” McKenzie revealed. “It’s a hard, hard game, but at the same time, I’ve really enjoyed it. Compared to football, you’re alone in boxing. You step forward on your own, without 10 others around you. If you get tired, you can’t pass the buck to someone else. There’s nowhere to hide. You find out a lot about yourself.
“My last fight [against McKenna] was a risky, tough fight to take, as he came into the contest with 15 fights under his belt. He was more experienced than me and very unorthodox. Considering I’ve got no amateur background, I thought I handled him well.”
McKenzie's next fight is on March 8 against Nikola Varbanov at Bethnal Green’s York Hall.
