John McMahon, the manager of Liverpool reserves has spoken about his newest player Conor Thomas, who joined Liverpool on loan until the end of the season from Coventry City on the final day of the January transfer window.

The 17 year old midfielder has represented England at under 17 level and played twice for the Coventry first team prior to his surprise move north, once as a second half substitute against Crystal Palace in the third round FA Cup tie and once when he started against Birmingham also in the FA Cup.

The transfer of Thomas, apparently against the wishes of City manager Aidy Boothroyd has been met with disappointment by Coventry supporters. The deal is initially a loan one with the option to buy will include add on fees dependant on club and international appearance and possible a sell on clause as well.

McMahon told LiverpoolFC.TV: "We see Conor as a good acquisition. He is another young lad who has had international recognition with England so it's a good opportunity for him to come and play with us."

"We have got some really good prospects at the club and he will come straight into the reserve team squad. I am sure he will fit in well with us as we have a good bunch of young lads at this club. Like all our youngsters we've got big hopes and prospects for them."
