Coventry City youngster James Maddison has said that he needs to be patient.

The eighteen year old Cov kid who signed a three and a half year contract this week told Alan Poole and James Rodger of the Coventry Telegraph: "I'm delighted to have signed the contract and it's come earlier than expected so I'm delighted. I set myself some personal goals before the season and I'm accomplishing them.

"I'm level-headed and I trust myself. I'm quite confident but you don't want to become too arrogant or big-headed. My family keeps me grounded. My dad says as soon as I was walking, I was playing football. I've loved football since I was a kid.

"Now I've got my contract, I know I need to be patient but I want to stake a place in the team and play for Coventry City. I believe in my ability and I'll take my chance when I get it."

"Even the best players have poor form. When that comes, I'll need to deal with it. Football changes.

The defenders try to intimidate me but academy football is a world away from the professional game. There's big, strong players and I will try and deal with that.

"My idol is Cristiano Ronaldo. I like to dribble and draw players in and beat them, and I've been told I'm quite arrogant on the pitch.

"I have confidence in my ability and I trust myself at dead ball situations. I'm not scared to tell Jim or one of the older lads that I want to take a free-kick.

"You play on horrible pitches sometimes and it's not ideal, I'd love to play on these pitches at Ryton all the time.

"We've got some great players here - we've definitely got the players to challenge towards the end of the season if we build on this Colchester win."
