Chris McCann has told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire that the sooner the Coventry City players start believing in themselves the better.
McCann, who is leaving in a few weeks for Atlanta United, said: “The manager can only do so much, give you so much information and set you out in a certain way but, ultimately, it’s down to the players to go out and perform and none of us can say we came out with any credit in last weekend’s game.
“We had a sit down and talk about what needs to change and I think we got a response on Wednesday night.
“You have to do it because I have been in situations before and you play so many games and think you’ll be OK and then before you know it you’re halfway through the season and you still think you’ll be OK, still think there’s enough games to turn it round.
“We have got a lot of good players who probably don’t believe in themselves as much as they should do. There’s a lot of quality on the field and the sooner they start believing they can do themselves justice in this league the better. We just have to keep going and hopefully we’ll turn the corner sooner or later.
