On form striker David McGoldrick has set himself the ambitious target of 30 goals for the season if he stays at Coventry City.
The 25 year old striker, who is on loan until January 3rd from Nottingham Forest, has already bagged 15 goals since he joined the Sky Blues, but his future is not yet certain.
McGoldrick has six months left to run on his contract at Forest and rather than let him leave for free in the summer and Sean O’Driscoll has hinted that he will be sold in the January transfer window.
Coventry have admitted they are in talks with the player and Forest, but any striker in devastating form will be in demand and McGoldrick has attracted attention from a host of League One and Championship clubs who are all keen to sign the player.
McGoldrick has publicly said he is grateful to Coventry for resurrecting his career and that he owes the club. He has also said he would prefer to stay in the area as his children are settled in their school. He lives in Nottingham with his family and makes the short commute to Coventry, but one of the club’s interested in signing McGoldrick is Notts County and for the Nottingham born player, that could be an attractive option.
McGoldrick told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “I’ve not hit my Christmas target yet there’s still a good five games to go of my loan spell. We’re not halfway through the season yet and if I stayed here then I’d back myself to double that again, so we’ll have to see what happens.
McGoldrick, who scored twice is Coventry’s 5-1 demolition of Walsall last Saturday, went on to say, “I had been a bit off it in the last couple of matches but I felt all aspects of my game were good on Saturday, looking after the ball as well as in front of goal.”
McGoldrick’s brace took his total in league and cup games to 15 for the season and took him clear at the top of League One scorers, two ahead of Tranmere’s Jake Cassidy, Scunthorpe’s Leon Clarke and Brentford’s Clayton Donaldson.
