The Scot missed the practice game in Austria and Wednesday night's game at Nuneaton due to a tightness in his groin but is hopeful of playing either this afternoon or on Wednesday at Northampton.
"The physios are just being extra careful with me because of my history with the injury," said McPake, who has already had a double hernia operation to the CT.
"My groin was a bit sore last week and so it is just a case of managing my pre-season a little bit differently to the other players but I have still been doing most of the sessions.
"I missed a couple in Austria which is frustrating but I know it will be the best thing in the long run.
"I sat out the first two games but am hoping to play against Hinckley or maybe Northampton next week and take it from there but the last thing I want is to push things too soon and end up being out."
