Coventry City's influential central defender James McPake has told the fans that the Sky Blues can still make the play offs despite the two recent games without a win.
Sunday's televised game at Leicester will be an opportunity for Coventry to close the five point gap on the top six and the last minute defeat to Cardiff on Tuesday will only act to spur on a determined 'City to get the first elusive win at the Walkers Stadium.
Talking about the Cardiff game and the forthcoming Leicester game, McPake said, “At 89 minutes we were happy to take a point, but we are still only five points away and that can be turned round in a week in this league with the midweek games, so we are not giving up just yet."
“We were already looking forward to the Leicester game in the dressing room after Tuesday’s match. It is on TV and there will be an extra edge to if because it is a derby and we want to go and get the three points."
“The fans will be there in numbers and they have been great recently and really helped us, and hopefully they can keep getting behind us because it is far from over. The manner of the Cardiff defeat will make us even more determined."
"It is swings and roundabouts and maybe we will be the ones to get lucky and we’ll get a decision that isn’t a decision. We are obviously disappointed but we have got to kick on. We have been on a good run and not lost many games since November so we are looking to keep that going.”
McPake had an opinion on the controversial penalty decision saying, “We were so close to getting a point and Cardiff not going any further ahead of us, so the way we lost the game was really disappointing."
"From that position the linesman has got to be 100 per cent and at the end of the game he said he was and he gave it, but even if it did hit his hand, they were close to his side and he didn’t try to stop the ball.
"Sometimes you just can’t get out of the way of them, so it is disappointing. On another night we could have had a penalty as well, but that’s football. Cardiff are a good team and they came here and had a go, but I thought we matched them and had good spells as well as them in an open game and certainly deserved at least a point."
"We have just got to forget about it now and pick ourselves up for another big game.”
