Coventry born striker Gary McSheffrey is just one goal away from 50 League goals for Coventry City.
The 28 year old McSheffrey has netted 59 goals for the Sky Blues in all competitions, but is one short of 50 league goals, a feat which only fourteen other City players have ever achieved.
His 59 goal tally for the club is more than other Coventry City legends of the past. Players like Ron Farmer (52), Ronnie Rees (52), Ernie Hunt (51) and Mick Ferguson (57).
He is now one short of Ian Wallace's tally, three away from Cyrille Regis and thirteen off Dion Dublin. Coventry City's all time record goal scorer Clarrie Bourton scored 182 goals for Coventry City.
McSheffrey was Coventry's leading scorer in the three seasons before he left to join Birmingham and is now leading the field again this season with four goals and is eager to add to his total, but winning is more important to the selfless player and he doesn't mind who scores so long as the goals keep going in.
Fellow striker Marlon King is not yet off the mark, although his manager claimed he should be credited with the Murphy own goal at Scunthorpe and McSheffrey is in agreement.
He said to the CT: "It hit the post and hit the keeper and went in but whatever it goes down as, it is a confidence booster that every striker needs, especially Marlon. I just hope he can kick on now and that this will be the start of good things for him," said the selfless 28-year-old who knows exactly what King has been going through."
"I imagine it means a lot to him. I had a big goal drought and when I scored my first of this season I think my celebration showed what it meant to me, so it will be a massive weight off his shoulders and will do him the world of good."
As a former Premier League player, McSheffrey believes that many of his team mates have the quality to play in the Premiership.
He said, "A lot of people say that there is not a lot of difference between the bottom ten in the Premier League and the top six in the Championship, Some of the teams in the Premiership at the minute would probably struggle in this league because it is such a hard division, it is very physical and there are a lot of games, but Marlon is a Premiership striker."
"He has got a good touch, he brings players into the game and he can score goals and I am sure being here at Coventry will be good for him. He'll get a good season under his belt and maybe get back to where he wants to be. It has been great working with him and Clive Platt, and then there is the Juke and Freddy on the bench so the manager has got good options."
"They are very physical and win a lot of headers, and they are good headers too. They are not just flick-ons, they put them in the right areas and I think we are getting a bit if an understanding now. Me and Aron Gunnarsson are tucking in off the wide areas from their flick-ons so things are working well. We are all good friends and get on great."
After a miserable week which saw Coventry City lose three games on the trot and drop down the table, they bounced back with wins over Burnley and Scunthorpe and lifted the team back into the top six.
