If you hadn’t guessed from our earlier teaser, we are very pleased to announce that ‘Coventry kid’ and Sky Blue forward Gary McSheffrey has recently signed for the Coventry City Former Players Association.
He needs little introduction in the locality and has been a consistent fans favourite in two spells with the club. Our intrepid committee man, Frank Pritchard, fresh from tracking down and recruiting to the CCFPA such Sky Blue stars of recent vintage as Richard Keogh, Cyrus Christie and Blair Adams has now managed to pin down ‘Sheffers’ on the road between his Coventry home and his current employers Scunthorpe United FC to whom he moved earlier this season. Frank reports:-
” I finally caught up with one of my more elusive targets on Thursday having been trying to pin him down for several months but due to work, personal commitments and family , unfortunately our paths haven’t previously crossed! However I recently met-up with Gary in Kenilworth with his daughter. He was delighted to be joining CCFPA and, as he plays golf in the Summer, Gary says he hopes to be taking part in next years annual Golf Day at Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club on Thursday 4th June.
Gary has also offered to be our ‘Special Guest’ at a future date, obviously subject to his availability now that he’s a Scunthorpe United player. Gary usually gets down to the Coventry area a couple of times a week and still keeps in touch with quite a few of his former colleagues. During last week he was able to take in a game at Hillsborough and was most impressed with a Bournemouth side who have had a lot of money invested in them and of course are led by former Sky Blue colleague Callum Wilson (who incidentally should be congratulated for recently getting the call-up to the England U21 squad). However, Gary was quick to point out that fellow CCFPA member Keiren Westwood in the Wednesday goal stood no chance with either of the goals in their 0-2 home defeat.
A very warm welcome to a ‘Coventry Kid’ who I feel sure will be actively involved with the FPA in the not too distant future”
Welcome Gary!
