For those who don’t know can we remind you that the Coventry City Former Players Association’s ‘special guest’ for this upcoming Saturday’s Sky Blues clash with Gillingham is our popular former striker Gary McSheffrey. Gary, of course,is a ‘Cov.Kid’ and has played for his home town club over two spells (1998-2006 & 2010-13). In all Sheffers pulled on the Sky Blue shirt 281 times and netted 72 times.
He comes to watch Sky Blues games quite often and supports CCFPA events and was last at the Ricoh wearing a Grimsby shirt (his last club). Most recently he has been playing for Frickley Athletic.
Gary will be here for the Sky Blues Community Day and will be hoping his presence and the very big crowd will spur the Sky Blues to turn the corner after their recent mini slump and that disappointing home defeat to Blackpool at the Ricoh just time out.
He will be visiting the JSBs and the Family Zone crew pre-match as well as touring the supporters loungers with fellow former Sky Blue and CCFPA member Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts. He will also, no doubt be joining CCFPA’s Billy Bell in the G-Casino after the game to do a Q&A from the stage of LadyG’s in front of Sky Blues fans, hopefully buoyed by a home win.
If you really can’t get to the game Sheffers will be giving the benefit of his footballing knowledge and considerable playing experience to the BBC CWR live match day commentary team as the game unfolds.
Other CCFC former players expected to be attending the game are:-
Micky Gynn, Dave Bennett, Ken Brown, Ron Farmer, Gordon Simms, Graham Walker, Brian Nicholas, Bill Tedds, Ian Goodwin, Kirk Stephens, Peter Hormantschuk and Craig Pead
