"We were very positive and we really caused them problems," the caretaker boss said after the 1-0 victory.
"I thought our midfielders in particular were outstanding because we matched them up in there and that's probably West Brom's strongest area.
"But it's players who win games, not tactics, and credit must go to the lads.
"We've got Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Boxing Day, so with the Blades and West Brom today we couldn't really have picked two more difficult games.
"But we've got back-to-back wins under our belts now after Burnley last week and hopefully we can move up the league.
"This result should give the players a belief they are a match for any team in this division."
