Coventry City have accepted an offer from Bristol City for striker Michael Mifsud.
Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman revealed yesterday that the Maltese international - who scored 17 goals in all competitions last season including a brace in the Carling Cup against Manchester United and in the FA Cup against Blackburn - had explained to him that he wants a transfer from the club.
"I spoke with Michael this week and he feels that it is time for him to move on," said Coleman.
"He's a quality player who scored 17 goals last year. He was our top scorer but he's got 12 months left on his contract and we risk having an unhappy player on our hands and then losing him for nothing if we keep him.
"He feels that his career is going to progress elsewhere and there is nothing we can do about that."
Chairman Ray Ranson has now revealed that Bristol City have met City's asking price for the 27-year-old, who is now expected to open talks with the Championship outfit.
He said: "Michael has indicated to the manager that he is not happy at the club and is in the process of handing in a written transfer request, so we have to accept that he will move on.
"Bristol City have come in with an offer that we believe is acceptable for a striker who scored 17 goals last season and we have given them permission to speak to Michael and his representatives."
No fee has been mentioned but it is believed that the offer is in the region of £2m.
