Former Coventry City midfielder Aron Gunnarsson had a mixed day in the Euro 2016 Group F game against Hungary today.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw with Gunnarsson winning a penalty that gave the Icelanders a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Gunnarsson reacted quickly to a mistake by Hungary goalkeeper Gbaor Kiraly, who fumbled a cross and dropped the ball, Gunnarsson won the ball and was deemed to have been fouled by Kadar, the referee pointed to the spot and Gyfli Sigurdsson made no mistake to make it 1-0.
The former City fans favourite Gunnarsson was substituted just after the hour mark and was replaced by Halfredsson.
Hungary equalised late on through an own goal by Saevarsson, a result of relenting Hungarian pressure, but the minnows from Iceland had a chance to win it in time added on when Adam Lang fouled Alfred Finnbogason inches outside the penalty area. Gylfi Sigurdsson took the free kick which rebounded off the wall into the path of the veteran Eidur Gudjohnsen whose shot was deflected inches wide of the post.
The game ended 1-1.
