Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has been having a look at several players while on trial at the club.

Stephen Jennings has been know about for a while, but it has emerged that Thorn has two foreigners at the club. one a "powerful centre-half", who is likely to sign for the Sky Blues, possibly as early as today.

The un-named player has impressed while on trial  this week and will probably play at some point in the first pre-season friendly game at Hinckley on Saturday.

Thorn could field as many as six players not currently on the City books in the friendly at Hinckley as he continues to rebuild his squad following the departure of Clingan, Cranie, Bigirimana, Eastwood, McPake etc.

Thorn has already brought in Kilbane, Fleck and Elliott and has been checking out Jennings, all of whom will feature at Hinckley on Saturday.

The club are keeping quiet on who the players are as they don't want to run the risk of any deal being hijacked by another club as both players are thought to be attracting interest from elsewhere. Both players are believed to be European.

Steve Waggott, the club's development officer and the man charged with  recruiting new players, told the CT, “We are very, very close with one player and there has been significant interest in him from other clubs.

“We are working extremely hard with Andy to bolster the squad and we hope to have this deal done ahead of the friendly at Hinckley on Saturday. It’s been a very busy few weeks because there is a lot of work to be done in rebuilding for next season but we are all very pleased with where we are at this stage.

“The next few weeks are going to be equally as busy as we try to put a squad together that can challenge in League One next season.”
