Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that Gaeil Bigirimana will to look at the bigger picture if he wants a contract with the Sky Blues.

Speaking about the loanee from Newcastle United, who played for City U21's on Tuesday, Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: Mowbray said: “Bottom line, we’ve seen Jim O’Brien find it difficult to accept not playing but I have spoken to Gael who is quite positive.

“He’s here to play but he can’t at the moment and he understands that. I have spoken to him about the number of loans and where we are at this moment with the costings and trying to be clever with our loans, do deals with clubs to manage the money to get a decent enough team.

“He understands all that. I can see the disappointment on his face but he’s playing with the Under-21s and as I have said to him, there’s a fair chance he wouldn’t be playing at Newcastle.

“He’s down here, among some family. We treat him well, with total respect and he understands the predicament we have got at the moment..

“The bigger picture is that if in the summer he negotiates the last year of his contract at Newcastle and he wants to do something with this club or we have the best offer for him then we can discuss that then.
