Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he likes what Ivor Lawton brings to the City U21's team.
The Coventry born midfielder again displayed leadership and the willingness to make some tough tackles for City U21's in their 4-1 win over Colchester United on Monday and speaking about him to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Mowbray said: “Ivor’s back and watching him in the 21s this week you can see what he brings to the team.
“Can he do that and does it fit with my beliefs and philosophy in the first team? Can he do what Vincelot does? Maybe.
“It’s all a balance in football and it’s about where does he fit in.
“I like what he brings to the Under-21s, I like traits that he brings that most teams need. But at this moment Vincelot and Fleck have been playing really well and, as the bench would suggest, we have Conor Thomas and Bryn Morris in front of him.
“And yet I do like the traits he has and I know the supporters like the traits because they like people who crunch into tackles and get up snarling and shaking their fist. And that’s fine.
“He’s here in my mind and he’s going to play Under-21 football. If the phone rings and he goes out on loan and there’s a progression for him we’ll look at it because it’s about creating a path for Ivor.
“If I didn’t like what I saw I wouldn’t have given him a contract in the summer and he’d be swimming around with loads of other players trying to find a club.
"But I wanted to give him an opportunity to see whether training with us every day he could take on board the demands of how I see a central midfield player playing. And we’ll see as the season unfolds.”
