Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that there are no guarantees that he will be able to take Grant Ward, Dominic Samuel and Matt Pennington on loan next season.
Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: : “Sometimes players do that well that a team in a higher division want to come along and take them on loan and there’s a benefit to the parent club for them to play at a higher standard, being closer to the standard they would want to play at, so we have to wait and see.
“We need to develop those relationships to see how far we can take them and if they trust us with their players, because that’s what it comes down to.
Are we playing in a way similar to the way they want to play, whether that be a passing game or robust, more direct game?
"Whatever it might be, but sometimes it might suit a parent club to send their player out to a club that coach in a way that suits their pattern and style of play.
“No club can guarantee they’ll send their player back to you in July because, generally, they like to monitor their own players, test their fitness and get them playing and training with their own team-mates,” he said.
“That’s how I used to do it at West Brom, Middlesbrough and Celtic. You want players to feel that it’s their parent club so you go through pre-season with them and then if it’s right for them to go out to play competitive football on loan then that’s the next stage for them.
"So I can’t imagine we’ll be able to bring loan players in on the first day of pre-season.”
