Mowbray At A Loss

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he is at a loss over the Sky Blues 3-1 defeat at home to Doncaster Rovers after good away wins at Chesterfield and Fleetwood Town.

Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: “You feel helpless sitting on that bench trying to understand what’s going on. And if you were one of the 300-odd fans who went to Fleetwood you’ll be wondering ‘how can a team go from being so good to being so poor?’

“The most disappointing thing is that so many players were under-par and in the dressing room I said to them ‘somebody talk to me – somebody give me an explanation.’

“Why are our defenders messing around at the back like that, playing silly balls into midfield? And why aren’t our midfielders taking the play up front, so that even if we lose the ball it’s in the opposition half and they’ve got 70 yards to get to our goal?

“For half an hour we looked good – they were struggling to cope with us and if we’d got the second goal it could have been a different match.

“But it was mind-boggling how we could start the second half so badly, how everybody’s standards dropped.

“Maybe that’s a confidence thing, maybe we got carried away with a few decent results.

“If that’s the case, let’s realise where we are because we’re not at the wrong end of the table by mistake. We’re still in a predicament and we have to win some matches."
